The African Journal of Health and Social Justice (AJHSJ) is a peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journal dedicated to advancing Africentric scholarship at the intersection of health, law, policy, and human rights. Rooted in indigenous knowledge systems, the Journal foregrounds African lived experiences while engaging global standards of research and publishing excellence.
AJHSJ was established to strengthen African-led knowledge production, respond to persistent epistemic inequalities, and provide a platform where scholarship grounded in African contexts can shape policy, practice, and social transformation.
Focus and Scope
AJHSJ publishes high-quality empirical and doctrinal work that engages with the social, political, legal, and structural determinants of health in Africa. Its scope includes but is not limited to: health systems, public health, human rights, gender and equality, governance, environmental health, pharmaceutical and digital health policy, and broader questions of social justice.
The Journal emphasises Africentric perspectives, indigenous knowledge, and scholarship that advances equity, accountability, and transformative policy responses within African settings.
Purpose
The Journal seeks to build a rigorous body of knowledge that strengthens Africentric jurisprudence and epistemology, informs evidence-based policy, and supports advocacy efforts to improve health and social justice outcomes across the continent.
Audience
AJHSJ serves scholars, practitioners, policymakers, civil society actors, and researchers working in public health, law, economics, education, ICT, media, social sciences, and related fields.
Open Access Model
AJHSJ follows a gold open-access model. All published content is permanently and freely accessible. The Journal does not charge article processing fees.

The Journal is registered with an ISSN and indexed in major scholarly databases, including Scopus, DOAJ, PubMed, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate, enhancing the visibility and reach of its publications.
Publication History
The first issue of the African Journal of Health and Social Justice was published in October 2025.
